I just purchased a new P3-600 with 256 Ram, Win98. I hooked-up my reliable 9-year-old HP-500C Deskjet and installed its driver (the driver is on the Win98 CD - Its the only one available. No new driver at HP's site). It prints the test page perfectly, however if I print a large document, the first page-and-a-half prints fine, but then it starts printing garble (happyfaces and symbols). The printer works fine on my old machine, so its not the cable or printer.
Does any one know whats wrong, and how to fix this.

What I would check is to see if my cable is bidirectional cable.
It could be that the LPT port on your old PC was not a bi-directional port and the new one is.
Also if you have an external tape backup that the printer is plugged into try plugging the printer directrly into the LPT port and see what happens.
Hope this helps...

I have a Deskjet 1100C and installed Windows 98, and ever since have a similar problem to you, test page ok, next page little hearts at the top and nothing else. I have found out that it is a driver problem and apparently there is no fix!!
