Printer won't print in black.

I got a used Canon S600 printer and it won't print in black. I've checked all my settings and they are correct, and also bought a brand new ink cartridge. Any suggestions?

I had a similar problem with a Canon. I took out the main print cartridge (removed the ink cartridges) soaked it in water for a while, then I held it under a running faucet until it ran clean. I let it sit overnight to make sure it was good and dry. reinstalled in the printer and it worked fine.
