Hi. I installed a lexmark 3200 in my win 98 pc. and I can not print a word document or notepad document or anything, the only thing that I can print is any image that I find in the internet. So I tried uploading the file to a free website that I created just for this document at lycos, thinking that maybe I can print it as I can with an internet images, well, it just print the ad at the top of my site, I also send it to a yahoo email account and it did the same, it only printed the header, my folders names but not the actual email. I already reinstalled 3 times, I find no problems in my device manager, I also upgraded the drivers, I tried 2 cables. Last thing I tried was to print any article in a friendly print version that I found in any site and only the header was printed. My printer it sounds and I can see the head running side to side but nothing. Any ideas? Thank you for your help and time.

Sounds like it might be a problem with the black ink cartridge. Is the text that does come out black, or another color. If it is a color and no black, than try replacing the black cartridge. The printer may be new, but the ink cartridge could be dried up or the nozels may be clogged.

I am not familiar with Lexmark printers. Is this a Parallel Printer or USB printer? Did you test Print Pattern or nozzle test? Can you do a Test Print either from Printer Properties in Printer's Folder or from the Printer itself that shows up text in black and color?

I think I read some where about Via motherboards and usb and printers and win 98. Some thing about updating the usb drivers. If its a Via motherboard try via or microsoft for support on this.

Yes it sounds like the black ink cartridge. I got a new black and it still wouldn't print except colour. When I checked, the cartridge had slipped a bit, so I put it back in correctly and it prints out ok now.
