Printer stuck in PAUSE mode-won't print!! Epson Stylus Color II ,(Win 98,Cyrix6x86 cpu) RESET button pushes down, but PAUSE lite stays on. Print head moves when powering up or when pressing ALT(at which time lite blinks--for cartridge removal)& it will load paper & receive data;but no cleaning or self-test functions. I have tried powering off(up to 12 hrs) & powering on with combinations of ALT,RESET,LOAD buttons held down;unplugging power cord & comp; AND I have tried Rebooting combinations. Could the printer be retaining some setting I could clear by opening up the machine;or can I use the computer to reset the printer? PLEASE HELP!!-very frustrated

Several things to try. Some depend on the results of others.. Does it do it when the PC is powered off? Do you have anything inbetween the PC and ptr? (ie: Zip drive) If you can swap cables and it still does it, boot to a DOS prompt and type "dir > LPT1" (without the quotes of course).. If it prints, you have a windows issue.. If not, most likely your printer is hosed. Good luck!

UPDATE:My problem was resolved by calling Epson--A radical "MEMORY RESET" was needed--not recommended except as last resort. INSTRUCTIONS follow: Turn off printer. Disconnect data cable from PRINTER!-not comp. While holding down 1)ALT & 2)RESET & 3)PRINT MODE & 4)LOAD simultaneously--Power Printer back on--Hold buttons for good 5 sec's. May need to power off & on 1 more time. PS: Cartridges should both be in ,paper in & loaded ,no ink out lites on.
