Comment:

I installed an HP 1220C printer on my Dell 700 mhz PIII, 128 mb ram. The installation failed several times, but eventually worked.

Before this printer was installed, I could work on any task while the job was sent to a printer.

Now when the job is being sent, the machine locks up, even the screen saver runs poorly.

We have a SmartPrint parallel printer network. Works great on all other machines where the HP1220C software was not installed.

I have tried: re-installing Win98, changing the spool settings, etc in windows, added a PCI paralle card and disabled LPT1 in CMOS, changed the Smartprint module.

Nothing has worked.

Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks very much,

Tom Albright

I would contact HP and see what they say.

Hiya, I agree with Ralph. I have personally seen HP products with the wrong software and or drivers shipped that way from the factory.
c-ya, joe.
