Comment:

I just upgraded to a new intel mobo (D845EBG2) and new P4 2.3 ghz. All seems to work fine except the printer. What ever I do, I get the message " cannot communicate with printer". The cables are connected and the printer is on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you check the bios for the printer port to be bi-directional/epp/ecp? Is the cable good?

printer port is set to bi-directional in the bios. The cable is good. The printer worked fine untill I did the upgrade.

check the device manager in the control panel, take a look at ports/lpt to see what you have there.

Thank you all for the input. I checked every thing you suggested and could find nothing wrong. I ended up re-installing windows and now my printer works fine. Just don't know what the problem was.
