What is the normal procedure for updating a printer driver? The HP722 printer I have came with a Win98 driver when purchased 9/98. I have downloaded a driver update dated 10/98 and ran install but am not sure it is in effect. Both the old printer icon and the new driver icon is showing in the Printer folder: (Start/Settings/Printer) as if they were 2 different printers. Should I have uninstalled the old printer driver somehow? Please advise.

You could keep the old and the new. I would suggest keeping both for now and setting the New printer Icon as the default (Right Click the printer icon.) The way to tell what driver a printer is using is to right click it and choose properties and the select the details tab at the top. In the middle of the printer properties window is a field titled "Print using the following driver." Here you will find the printer driver name and a list of other drivers installed.

I have finally received a response from the printer manufacturer regarding this issue, too. They advised me to uninstall the old printer driver and then install the new one, setting it as the default. I have completed the procedure and it seems to work very well. Thanks for your helpful response.
