you need windows 3.0, 3.1 or 3.11 installed first before you can use an upgrade CD. If you want to install from fresh (full install on a clean HDD) you need the full version. If you can get Windows 95 version C. The other 2 versions of win 95 don't have as much device drivers and have many bugs.

you only need to show the installation you have the disks.. you do not need to install the previous version first..

Bypass Upgrade Check

When wanting to do a clean install of Win98 yet bypass the check for an older
version of Windows.
Boot your system from a boot diskette (Windows 95/98 startup disk, or DOS
bootable diskette). Create a file in the root directory of your boot partition
named "ntldr" (no quotes). The file can't be a zero-byte file, so edit it and
put rem on a single line with no spaces in front of it.
This should bypass the check for previous version of Windows by fooling the
system into thinking that NT is installed.

it not, make folder c:\windows, and copy any file to it and rename to "win.com" may work
