Hi,
I set up a home network a while ago with three pcs. It works fine, its just that my presario 4810 that I use for file storage and to run the printer, has no keyboard, and ideally I would like to keep it that way.

It works fine if you boot with keyboard into Win 98 and then unplug it, but I would rather it didn't have to have keyboard at all.

The BIOS for this is rather basic and there are no options for disabling keyboards or boot warnings etc.

Any ideas?

Glenn

Hi Glenn.

It's a limitation of the motherboard hardware, and obviously has nothing to do with Win98. So, this question really belongs on a hardware mailing list or newsgroup, rather than a Win98 one, but I'll give you the same answer you'd get there:

You'll need, on that machine at boot time, either a keyboard or something with the electrical presence of a keyboard, such as a KVM box. Or else a different motherboard.

Obviously the problem cannot be solved in software, since it occurs before anything but firmware is loaded.

I have in the distant past seen a small module that simulates a keyboard. Maybe a search would turn up a PC store that has it.

Hi Glenn.

Aparently MrExacta did not read my post. I mentioned...

"either a keyboard or something with the 'electrical presence' of a keyboard..."

I would have told you about the site if you had asked.
