How do you know when a power supply is failing? My computer keeps locking up and my system temp is 114 degrees

usually when the PSU fails the computer will not power on nor will the fans work. in your case it sounds like heat is the problem caused by a fan not working or its loaded with dust. unplug the power cord and remove a side cover(s)get a can of compressed air and blow out the dust, plug the power cord back in, turn on the computer and be sure all fans are spinning.Leave the covers off for a couple days to see if the problem goes away.

My power supply just died. It hummed for a few months now. I thought it was the hard drive humming but it was the power supply. I didn't catch it in time and the power supply killed the motherboard and processor.
