Hey
I have a 250 watt ATX power supply a little over 2 years old And well the fan is sounding pretty bad and when the computer starts it goes really slow, I can see alot of dirt and dust around it but theres no way to clean it with out taking it off the tower. I'm wondering is the power supply screwed or will a little cleaning and oil fix it up?
And if it needs to be cleaned how hard is it to take out and or take apart to oil the fan?
thanks alot

dead easy to clean and replace if nesc. four screws in a square on the back to undo it if nesc and the fan is very easy to replace once inside...simply pull the jumper off the circuit board...you might wanna try doing it without all that tho with a toothbrush.
You cant oil them as far as i'm aware...dc motors are encased and made to be thrown away once knackered as they dont cost much...but i reckon you'll get away with the external clean.

It is fairly simple to remove and clean. I would not recommend oiling it though.
They can be purchased as new for around $30 and are just as easily replaced as they come out to be cleaned.
Try cleaning it and see if it helps.
My PS startd making noises about six months after I got the PC. That was 2.5 years ago and it has not gotten any worse. I bought the new PS 2.5 years ago.
It is recommended to not allow the PS to go bad as it will snowball into to other destruction.
Clean it or replace is good advise.

For cleaning...stop by any computer or electronics store & pick up a can of compressed air. They are sold for just this purpose & are very inexpensive. Between the air & your vacuum cleaner, you may not even need to remove the PS from the PC.

you can pick up a ps very cheap so if you dont want to clean it i recommend that you just get a new one
