If you read post #107083 you see what my problem is. I did not get the help that I needed. If someone could advise me of a web site, anything, where I can obtain this info. It is apparently something in the configuration and I don't have the knowledge/ability to straighten this PC out.

No matter what I have tried I get the same or similar error messages depending on the browser that I have installed. Something is lacking in my Windows configuration.

I would appreciate any/all help I can get please.

Rusty, I read your first post and have a few questions. Are you able to dial out and get a connection through AOL? If so, what happens when you try browsing through AOL? It's my understanding that AOL is its own browser, and you cannot use IE or Netscape when connected through AOL, but I could be wrong. Post back and tell us more about what you're doing exactly.

Yes Brent that first post was a little confusing, you can use IE with aol.....netscape too, but
netscape doesn't work as well as IE with aol

Brent/Gregg, I can use the "AOL" browser. On my lap top I have both IE/Netscape along with the AOL browser and they all work together. I've never had a problem such as this. Whenever I have downloaded a new AOL or Internet Explorer/Netscape they all would configure and work well together.

The error message that I receive are very similar, depending on which browser I attempt to use. They all seem to pertain to no being able to make the modem connect, however, the AOL browser works fine.

I hope I answered all your questions and made things more clear.

Thanks Gregg, I admit that I have to plead ignorance when it comes to the intricacies of AOL.

Rusty- Found this in the Microsoft Knowledgebase, not sure if it addresses your problme with IE or not:

Cannot Browse Internet Using IE While Connected to AOL

I think I understand now. You are already online and you are getting messages telling you: Unable to locate Server. Server does not have a DNS entry. Did you try Brent's link to microsoft? I saw you metioned in your first post that you thought it may be a winsock dll error did you get a winsock error message? Here is a download for win/95/sockets update. It certainly won't hurt to try that first , it's possible yours may be corrupted

If that doesn't helpI would uninstall IE and netscape. Then only try one of them to see if we can if you can get one browser at a time working for a few days. I

Gregg, I have downloaded the "patch" from Miscrosoft several times and it cuts off prior to completing. The file is supposed to be 986KB and stops somewhere around 714 etc. I've tried the install anyway and get an error message:"required resource Corrupted".
I think this might be the ticket but am stumped as to why it won't download properly. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Did you follow the download intructions?

How to Download

Create a folder by right-clicking on the desktop, click New, and then click Folder. Type a name for the folder and press enter.
Click the Download Now button at the top or bottom of this page. In the File download dialog box that appears on your screen, click Save Program to Disk.
Choose to save the file in the folder you just created, then click Save.
Open that folder and double-click ws2setup.exe to install the program files. Be sure to read the "Read-Me" files for additional information.

How to Use
You don't need to do anything after downloading

Gregg, I'm familiar with the proper way to download a program etc. What I'm saying is that this "patch" stops downloading prior to completion. I emailed MS and their reply was that they no longer address any web site problems concerning Windows 95, in addition, no longer offer technical help/advice for the Windows 95 program. Thanks.
