My wife says she tried to download a star trek voyager episode the other night off WinMX. She said that when she opened up the file to watch it, it opened up to a porn site. So we are thinking something could be on the system. The only thing I see out of the ordinary is that my start button in the tool bar is blanked out, once i saw it totally black and right now its all white without the word start. Also my minimize, and maximize icon like things in the top right corner of my explorer browser are all scrambled looking. i cannot make out what it looks like at all. When i click start allalong the left hand corner is all jumbled and has colors and stuff. Also if i right click on my desktop when the little box appears it has square black boxes with what appears to be 2 tiny dots that resemble eyes. Has anyone heard of anything like this. Im not sure if this is a virus, trojan, or for all I know a video card meltdown... I ran avg virus and nothing was detected, i have outpost firewall running with no alarms or anything. I also ran a program called The Cleaner which checks for trojans and it does not detect anything... any help would be appreciated. thanks

Thanks, I ran adware and nothing came up. I thought this was an excellent idea...somehow I over looked adware in all the confusion. I have noticed that rebooting corrects the problem for a while and after 10 minutes or so it gets weird. I also found this post at another board. Someone had or has a simliar problem.
QUOTE:
My kid's computer, that is networked to mine, acquired 5 similar viruses (variations on Opaserv.worm), because they didn't scan like they're supposed to (the IncoculateIT autoscan scans my machine but not theirs). I got rid of them per the instructions on the InoculateIT website and everything seems fine except:

When you open a window on their machine, instead of the underscore, box and x in the upper right corner of the window for minimize, maximize and close, there is 0, 1, and o.

In windows that have boxes to check mark to select or deselect options, instead of a blank box or a checkmark, the box is colored blue with an ampersand? symbol.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
JUST another lead:
