Just at random when I go to highlight some text I will have no control over what is being highlighted. When I click in a blank area more text becomes highlighted instead of the other text becoming unhighlighted.
Also, in Windows Explorer it is set up to move mouse over filename to highlight and click once to execute. Well, sometimes, at random all the files in the list will become highlighted. The only way to cure these problems is to hit both shift keys a couple of times then highlight works normally again.

Someone told me that my keyboard shift keys are getting stuck, but I don't think so as it happens on other keyboards that I try. Also, a couple of friends are experiencing the same text highlighting problems. It can't be everybody's shift keys getting stuck.

My conclusion is that it is some kind of virus that is not popular enough for the major virus scanners to detect yet. A virus that is simulating holding down the shift key while clicking the mouse button to hightlight text.

Any thoughts on this? It really is driving me crazy!

Again I agree. A mouse problem. I get it all the time. Lost alot of data I was trying to copy sometimes cuz it even deleted itself. I replace my mouse faithfully every 4 months. Tells you how we beat him up around my house. And sorry Luke if it seems like I'm following you. I'm not.

Replace the mouse every few months? I've had the same one for years. When it starts acting up, a simple cleaning will correct it.

I appreciate all the suggestions, but bad hardware is simply NOT the problem I am having. Cleaned the mouse, keyboard, etc.

I first noticed this behavior last week when I got the HaHaHa virus. I cleaned the virus but this only started happening after then.

Get real, when the mouse wants to highlight several files in a list as if I were holding down the Shift key is NOT caused from a dirty mouse. When I tap the Shift key and then click on one file the others become unhightlighted. I mean it is all working in reverse, or backwards.

To prove this is not my hardware, I used my personal recovery disk on my Sister's computer yesterday as she did not want to use the IBM recovery disk due to all the free trials, etc. they stuff on your hard drive.

The first time I booted her computer with the image of my C drive the first thing that acts up is the HIGHLIGHTING problem!!!

I ask her if she had been having this problem and she said it was the first time she had seen anything that weird.

So it has to be a software problem, if you don't believe me I am willing to send you the image of my C: drive and let you see for yourself.

I just don't know where to go to find the answer to this problem. And, this is why I say it is a probable virus and has not gained popularity yet.

Sigh!
