Hi Ron,

I suggest 2 solutions:
- try to let the pop up... what happens if you ignore it (if you close it, it opens back but if you let it in the background, does it come over your own task periodically?)?
- I think you have a kind of virus that you could kill using AD-Aware you can download on http://www.lavasoftusa.com/downloads.html

Invest in Pop-Up Stopper Pro. It stops all pop-ups, even the ones you want, but then you can specifically allow them. Have not seen a pop-up for weeks.

If you use Opera as your broswer you will not need to download anything
to take care of pop ups, it'll do it for you

Here is another alternative. I used this to stop the annoying camera add:

The hosts file can normally be found in the C:\Windows directory if you are using Windows 95 or 98. It can be opened and edited with a text editor such as Notepad or Wordpad.

The hosts file can be used to help speed your access to the sites listed within it. For example, you could make an entry such as

123.45.678 www.wherever.com

An additional benifit of the hosts file is that it can also be used to block unwanted sites or servers. This can be accomplished by creating an entry such as

127.0.0.1 ads.somewhere.net

With your browser closed...
Go to Start, Programs, Startup, look for and delete anything that ends with .hta or .reg

Then without opening your browser go to Start, Settings, Control Panel, Internet Options and change your homepage to your choice. Click Apply and Ok.

This must be done without opening your browser or else it will start all over again.

Or

Go to Start, Run, type in "regedit" without the quotation marks and hit OK.

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run to see if there are any references to the page. If found then in the right hand pane, right click on the entry and select Delete.

Also look in the other Run keys below it.

Whoa!!!

Slow down Deke.

That sounds most cool about the host files, but I couldn't understand how to use it.

Could you give a little more info, please (for example, what's the difference in your example that blocks one site, but speeds access to another)?

Thanks

Hap

The first example is the adserver's address and the second example is your address.

I just added all those sites that are in the link of the previous post, to my host file. Will see how it works. I could use a pop-up killer but I don't like a lot of downloads.

Thanks Deke,

You may have noticed I started a couple of other posts on this. Thanks for opening my eyes on "hosts"
