Please Help!! - WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER CANT PLAY AVI MOVIES
Hey i have a BIG problem with Microsoft Windows Media Player. It seems that when i open a AVI file it cant play it and automatically trys to download a codec or decompresser from Microsofts website. The decompresser it downloads doesnt work and all it plays is the sound of the movie! Heres what it says after it attempts to download a decompresser:
------------------------------------------- A decompressor was downloaded for this file, but it didn't work. You may need to restart your player or browser. (Error=80040200) ------------------------------------------- ( I did restart my player AND browser! )

If you have Real Player or Apple's Quicktime on your system, sometimes file associations get messed up. I would suggest that you uninstall the Windows Media Player (Control Panel /Add Remove Programs), then go to the Windows Update site and download and install the latest. During the installation, the player will grab back file associations for itself.

Porn usually has this sort sort of crap - you didn't mention if you'd tried any other avi files. If the codec downloaded ok, then the avi file is probably a hybrid created or ripped from cd or video tape by some happless 3rd part s/w.
Robert and Biglad are both correct: First, try to play other AVI files. If they don't work, do as Robert says. I had exactly the same problem when I had Media Player and RealPlayer - Robert described the solution exactly!
