Hi. I am running win98, and I have a conexant softk56 PCI modem. Several days ago, I could not connect online. My ISP is also my place of employment, so I brought it in to work. A network admin thought it was the modem, then said it couldn't be. The problem is I connect, but I can't go anywhere with my browser. It says I am connected. Then we thought it must be our server, (although no customers had called in complaining)so I signed up for internet access with a different ISP, but I get the same problem. When I run winpicfg, it says under the PPP adaptor that the license was obtained on 1/1/80 12AM and expires at that same time. Can someone please tell me what is going on? Thanks so much Michelle

Have you tried to ping anything? IP's and name addresses? If you can ping either or but not both, it is the DNS resolution within your browser. IE 5 has been a culprit for this problem.

Yes, I tried pinging the server, and it timed out. Then they tried pinging me with the server, and it could not see me. I can ping myself with no problem. I have IE 5.5. Do you think upgrading may fix it? And if so, why would it just stop working out of the blues? Thanks.

As for the IE upgrading question I asked a second ago, I don't think that will work, because I also tried Netscape and got the same problem.

I agree with tinkerbong reinstall you have corrupted or missing files. I had this problem twice once this worked for me. The second time nothing worked so I had to reinstall windows. This of course worked.
