playing winamp music while playing games

on my other sony vaio computer i can play mp3 songs while playing games at the same time with sound as well like starcraft or counterstrike etc. but on this computer im using now, gateway, i can only play mp3 1 at a time what i mean is, i can't play a game while playing mp3's or cant play mp3's if im playing a game it says, MMSYSTEM004 The specified device is already in use. Wait until it is free, and then try again. Nullsoft waveOut plug-in v2.02 (x86) but on my other comp it never does that, please help!

Just a thought that it might be the difference in quality of sound cards. Sony usually have some pretty good hardware in their machines. You might want to check to see what the difference is between the two machines. Don't know if that will help or not.

Not really a souncard problem, just the configuration; I can't explain how to correct it clearly, so just try this workaroung: open winamp and start playing your playlist before starting the game. It should work.

It depends how many channels your audio card supports, Sound Blaster Live!s support 8 hardware and up to 32 via soft emulation. If you have a sound card with less than 4 channels you may not be able to get more than a few wav sounds at the same time. Another thing to try is to change the output option in winamp from nullsoft waveout to the directX out... but that creates another set of problems.
