RAR files are compressed, similar to ZIP. You need a decompressor like WinRAR. I'm afraid I don't know the name of any free ones, but someone else might.

"Expect ur reply" next time how about a please instead of demanding someone help you.

Although WinRar isn't free, it still functions just fine without purchasing it. It just gives you the nag screen when you first run it.

Kurt, I think that was a translation problem ("Expect ur reply").

I suspect it was meant to convey 'waiting for your reply'.

If you are interested I can email you a file "unrar.exe" (only 184KB). I have also made a little batch file to run it conveniently.

All you have to do is produce a couple of folders. The files that the .rar contains end up in a Results folder.

Very simple, I'll give full instructions. Shout back if you want it.

OK fine, I'll email the files shorly.

Please avoid putting your email address in text on the net or the spammers engines will find it and send you junk email. This is one way to disguise it:

WinRAR is currently up to v3.5 or thereabouts - files compressed with more recent versions often cannot be unpacked by earlier versions

We've heard that a million monkeys at a million keyboards could produce the complete works of Shakespeare; now, thanks to the Internet, we know that is not true

Hmmm, my UnRAR is a few years old (V3.11 if that correlates to total package). All depends on posters .rar version.

I'll keep forum posted but it would be worth keeping the ideas flowing in case we come unstuck.

Re my #9. I said I'd pop back and let the forum know the outcome. No luck I'm afraid. The files run fine on my system but the poster couldn't even run the test file I sent - stuck at the DOS screen.

I've no idea why the above didn't work but the poster has now download a program which has done the trick.

Sorry, no dice.

As happens soooo many times, I compose emails with instructions, attach files and the email gets returned immediately.

I thought perhaps your OE was set not to receive .bat and .exe (excecuteables) but having tried again with them renamed the email came straight back again.

Incidentally, if you put your email in open text on the net it will be found by the spammers search engines and you'll get junk mail forever. Disguise it somehow, this is one way:

Had one last go (message with no files at all) and back it came.

Is that address right? The "in" at the end looks a bit odd to me.
