I have always used Winamp to play midi's. Just recently I have noticed when trying to play a midi in Winamp I have no sound. I am able to hear wav's etc...just no sound playing midi's. Latest thing installed was Norton's Antivirus 2000. I disabled this program but still no sound playing midi's in Winamp. I also removed Winamp and then downloaded it again. I can use other players and hear sounds when playing midi's, just no sound when using Winamp player. The slider bar is moving...no sound. I have tried to go to trouble shooting in Winamp but alas... no such thing if you are having problems. Is anyone else experiencing this problem or is it mine alone? Thanks in advance if you reply to my problem.

Linda,

Have you changed any of the setting in your volume control? Such as unchecking any options that may have been muted? Just a thought.

Thanks Pierre... Yes I have checked my settings in volume control. None are muted.
I realize I can use other players to hear midi's...but this just bugs me.

Thanks again for your thought.

Have you checked the settings under the Multimedia icon in Control Panel to see what the preferred device is and if the Use Only Preferred Devices box is checked?

Thanks For Your Reply,

I checked the setting for the preferred device and it is there and OK, however the preferred devices box was not checked. I checked it and anxiously went to Winamp to play a midi. Nope...still no sound. Nuts! I thought for a moment your suggestion was the answer. Thank-you anyway for your suggestion.

I have a similar problem. I use Win Amp and it plays my midis from my computer just fine, but ever since I installed the newest version of Internet Explorer, now background midis from web pages won't play at all in either browser, IE or Netscape. Does anyone have any ideas how I can fix this? I tried all the things Linda did and still no luck. I even installed the newest version of Win Amp. Nothing works :(

I forgot to mention I have double and triple checked the settings on IE and all the checks to hear sounds are checked. My volume settings are fine also as I can hear sound and midis everywhere but in my browser.
