I did a quick search & Freebox appears to be some sort of French DSL.

From what I can make out, this person installed "Freebox" & when he/she connects to the internet, IE & OE cause the system to "plant"? (does that mean crash? maybe freeze or lockup?). He/she tried a 56K connection & has the same problem with IE & OE. Other programs work fine. Scanned for viruses & it came up clean. Any suggestions?

Am I close? LOL

Hi

Installing sp1 for IE6; things went south for IE.

Suggestion -- I'm told IE6 has a repair option, which I don't know much about.

That remark might be as silly as asking you to post in French. It sounds arrogant.

Porcinet
I too unfortunately only speak English and a little German. Reading this and your previous post as best I can, it would seem worth downloading and running Ad-Aware and removing anything "nasty" it finds. This program can find things that are not found by virus checkers.

I will "try" to contact a French person to reply to you.

Thanks anenefan.

It would be well worth trying IE Repair.

Probably the easiest way for you is this:

Type this in the Run box and see if the repair option shows:

rundll32.exe setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance

I agree with uppercrust! If the poster want's advice from an english speaking forum, they should post in english!

I have never posted on a Japanese forum and expected an english reply! Not even a russian or arabic site.

If the poster choses not to, or is unable to post in the language spoken on the site, then they are on the wrong site.

The onus of translation does not lie with us, it lies with the original poster.

Of course if anybody is fluent enough in french to reply, go ahead. But please provide translations for present and future readers.

We do have multilingual posters - this is an international site. My highschool French lessons were long ago, but a translation (of sorts) can be gotten from Babel Fish

Why don't they make computers that will do what we think we want them to do?

Aangezien altijd u juiste jboy bent!

I have read nothing in the rules for this website that stipulates English only. Within my own limitations I will continue to try and help. What other do is entirely up to them.

Gérard is a gentleman and very knowedgeable in computers. I feel sure that he will let us know about both of these posts when he has had chance to look at them. This is why I asked him if he could come aboard.

Hi Porcinet, uppercrust, jam, anenefan, Rimfire, jboy, hi everybody,

Thanks to the kind members who try to understand and respond despite the language! Congratulations to jam who perfectly understood and explained!
I can't blame members who disagree and I will begin chastising Porcinet because he writes in French (the problem is already hard enough! Maybe useless to add difficulties), with some misspellings and many colloquial words that nobody can understand but French guys!
Porcinet posted 2 threads and never responded even after 5 to 10 answers! I do hope he doesn't play bad tricks to members of Computing.Net!

Net !

Have a good day,
Gérard from Paris, France

Hi everybody,

My translation of the original message:

-----
Following IE6 sp1 and "Freebox" installations, IE and Outlook Express crash as soon as the connection is activated.
I re-installed several former versions, uninstalled the "Freebox", tried using again normal 56 Kbps connections... to no avail! connections work perfectly. I have got a laptop under XP which perfectly works with these lines, with same settings and same cabling...
IE and OE systematically crash as soon as the connection is established. All other programs work perfectly well, I carried my hard disk to be disinfected by an experienced assembler, I don't have any virus.
Some ideas, I dry up!

-----

A "Freebox" is a hardware device (by the "Free" company); it provides an Internet DSL-like connection (1 to 5 Gbps), TV connection along with phone connection! very handy!
This device is quite new and there are many technical issues... depending on the distance to the switchboard...

Have a good day,
Gérard from Paris, France

Hi Porcinet, uppercrust, jam, anenefan, Rimfire, jboy, hi everybody,

Porcinet explains IE and OE have problems when he uses the "Freebox" device! He explains everything is fine with a 56 Kbps connection!
As said in my previous post, the provider met oodles of technical problems...

I think issues are due to that "Freebox" and my advice would be to ask Free (provider) about this or read their FAQ... possibly some driver simple problem!

-----

Have a good day,

Thx for translations and help (I don't think I got quite close enough in my understanding of this one).

What you say makes good sense. I know nothing about Freebox so I can't add anything more.

I hope so too, otherwise I will wish I hadn't bothered you with these postings. At the time I thought it was the proper thing to do.

Thank you anyway.
