My Athlon computer restarts itself or freezes when I try to use my new Pioneer DVD-RW. Any comments? (Never had such a problem before).

Thank you

When you say 'use' do you mean burning or reading CDs or both?

When I burn regular CDs the computer may freeze or blue screen with VXD error message may appear. I downloaded and installed the update for the DVD drive from Pioneer website - did not help. I reduced the RAM memory to 256 - no effect. What should I do next?
(I have ABIT mobo).
