Pioneer DVD romdrive Do I need software to run dvd's?

Hi...I have aquired a second hand Pioneer 103s DVDrom Drive. It has installed ok..It recognises Normal CD's..but doesn't do anything when I insert a dvd movie. Should there be extra software to run these discs? Do I need specific ones for my drive? Or do I just need a general third party prog that plays dvd's? Thanks for any help.

You will need a Mpeg decoder to play DVD movies, Cyberlink powerDVD is the most popular and is usually bundled with most PC's, unfortunately it is not free, not unless you have any mates who might be able to lend you the install disks.

Thanks for that Colin...I think an mpeg player software (softpeg I think)came with my old Matrox graphics card...Is that the same thing?
