Using Corel Photo House, my icons changed, but I used to get a generated preview of the pictures. Now, .JPG's will give none, but .BMP's will. I have looked in Regedit at HKCU/Micr/Win/Explor/Thumbnail View and it reads: HTMLExtractTime 0x0000005a(90). File associations reads .BMP for Default Extention. What happened to my pictures, and enabling Thumbnails messed me up!? Please help me, someone.

hay I lost mine too!
if some one gives you a good answer please pass it on
i do by pass, by file open and then the jpegs file

Well, I just went through and copied tons of info from forum questions I should have seen prior to posting this. A funny thing though; when I discovered this problem, it was when all of my picture icons turned to yellow "?" and my IE saved Web pages were the Sounds icon from Control Panel...still can't figure that one out, but I fixed it in Folder options. Thanks everyone. bye

The link below has instructions for fixing the Preview feature. Follow the instructions exactly for your version of Windows & IE. The FixPix.inf file usually corrects the problem. Here's the link.

Hey Tufenuf,
So what's up on PC911? I see the EIC is tired of all the drama/name calling on the site... Considering shutting it down...
911 Forum Post - message to all (from the Editor in Chief)
Too bad - it was a good site....

Ellis, From what I've read on PC911 the forum will close the end of this month. I hate to see it close since I thought it was a good forum and had quite a few very knowledgeable people there. I guess it was getting to be too much to handle for one person.

Ok. I have checked the Registry and all checks out fine. Folder options (Colrel Photo House) has my .BMP, .GIF, .JPG, .FPX, .PCD files opening/Content Type [MIME] image/bmp and default extention is bmp. I tried the Run command: "regsvr32 /i shdocvw.dll". Returned: Unrecognized Flag /i, Usage:regsvr32[/u][/s]dllname, /u-unregistered server, /s-silent; display no message box, /c-console output.
Note: I just edited my Prefs file to make Netscape my default browser, so IE is no History. My .jpg's did not show previews before this though. The downloads/fixes I read about seemed to be dealing with IE, but it has to be a simple setting configuration. .bmp's preview fine and Corel is set with that defautlt.
I changed the Content [MIME] to .jpeg, automatically turning the Default extention to .jpe, and I now have .jpg previews. However, I do not have .bmp or .gif previews, but I now know how to change back and forth.
Can I simply create a New association for each file type and use the photo house as the .exe? I tried to add one called Bitmap Images, but it wouldn't give me the .bmp option. Please help, someone. Thanks again everyone. P.S. I will check that link out again, Tufenuf, but I figured it was more or less for IE. Thx again. cya

Diane, If you are running Windows 98SE it comes packaged with IE 5. It looks like you used the IE 4 instructions as shown below and you should have used the IE 5 instructions.
Preview Fix #1If you have MS IE4:
Go to the DOS Command prompt and type CD \Windows\System, and hit Enter. Now type regsvr32 /i shdocvw.dll. Reboot.
If you have MS IE5:
Go to the DOS Command prompt, type CD \Windows\System, and hit Enter. Now type regsvr32.exe /i shdoc401.dll. Reboot.Note also that there is a space between exe and / and between the i and shdoc401
I would give this a try again and see what happens.
If that doesn't solve the problem I would go to Preview Fix #2 and follow the instructions exactly as shown.
Download this file to a temporary directory: FixPix.inf. Make note of where you've stored it, you'll need it later.
Next you need to check to see if you can use this file to fix your preview problems.
Launch Windows Explorer and drill down to C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer and take a look inside. If the file Iexplore.exe is in this sub directory then go to the left pane and right click the folder itself.
Select Properties and make sure that the DOS file name for this folder is INTERN~1. If it is you're OK -- you can use this fix. If not, STOP, delete the .INF file and do not proceed.Note that you right click on the folder itself to see the DOS file name(You don't right click the Iexplore.exe file)and note the STOP, delete the .INF file and do not proceed.
I believe this will solve your problem and if you want to use your Corel Photo House program instead of Internet Explorer to view the files you would just ressociate your files with Corel Photo House. Please post back with how you're making out with this problem.Tufenuf

Tufenuf,
Thank you so very much. The FixPix.inf restored all of my pics backs to Win98 default. Just slightly over a year ago, I was reluctant to be able to turn a computer off. Now, I spend most of my time working on my little puters and hacking away at the Registry(s) and discovering new tweeks and conveniences (daily), but the pictures thingie had me stumped. Thanks again.
By the way; you know what I found yesterday in HKCU/M/W/Ex?DocFindSpc MRU? "Win32.cabanas". Ain't life GRAND??? Yes, I deleted it, but I can't afford antivirus right now, so who knows. I just reformat at a whim anyway...Cya, Tuf

Diane, I'm glad you got it fixed. As far as an Antvirus Program you can download & install AVG Anti-virus which is good and it's FREE. Just keep the virus definitions updated. Here's the link to download it.

Glad to help.

Tufenuf,
Thanks again! I downloaded the FREE AVG, and it said I am clean as a whistle. The Antivirus.com scan showed the same, but someone/something placed the Win32.cabanas in my Registry. In reading about the virus, it might have been one of the icons that I downloaded, and thankfully, never used.
Let me know if I can ever do anything for you. You are quite the celebrity around here , I see. lol Good night!
