Reply: (edit)Microsoft got you too... You can turn off the Scheduled Tasks, you can remove it from the start menu, you can shut it down. And it'll come right back. You have to delete it from the folder it's in, I can't remember the exact one. Then you have to remove Scheduled Tasks from the start up menu and shut it down on the taskbar. Then go into Accessories\System Tools\Scheduled Tasks, remove Critical Updates, then hit the advanced tab and hit "Stop Using" or whatever it says. Then reboot and make sure you killed it. Another helpfull junk program. You can get all updates just by going to Microsoft's site and downloading them yourself.

Reply: (edit)You will have to edit the registry to stop Scheduled tasks running at Windows boot time - its key resides in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run or one of the other "RUN" keys directly below it - I can't remember exactly. Find the sub-key which mentions Schedule or Scheduled tasks and delete it - reboot and Scheduled Tasks will be gone for good! REMEMBER - Always back up your registry before hacking about in it!!

Reply: (edit)Windows 98 used to pop a window when I closed MS Internet Explorer and/or Outlook Express that gave me the options to stay connected or disconnect now. Where did it go and how can I get it back?

Reply: (edit)start - run - msconfig - enter - startup tab uncheck critical update box, and task scheduler - restart computer. This will disable the applications and allow you to reactivate them in the future, my machine required double click to uncheck the boxes
