Ok, I have had this problem for about a month now, I posted before yet no one had an answer so I figure I'll ask again.

Immediately after installing Avast antivirus, I am plagued with an illegal operation error every time I right click on any file except the desktop. I am 99% sure I know the cause. It's from the blue circle that had the little "a" for Avast in it, the display driver for some reason is giving me trouble. It's EXPLORER has caused a fault in GLINT.DRV and I have the technical details available if need be. I tried all the suggestions before but none of them worked so I took it upon my self to reload the display drivers, which was tricky because I didn't have them so I had to download them from the gateway website and still no good.

What can I do? This happens EVERY TIME EVER since I installed Avast, uninstalling it is not an option for me. Is there some way or another to disable the blue avast logo from appearing in the right click menu?

Thanks,
Faris,

"uninstalling it is not an option for me"

Why is it not an option? If the problem started right after installing avast, try uninstalling it & see if the problem goes away. If it does, try different antivirus software, like AVG Free. You can find it here:

Hi, Install 98 over itself. NO FORMAT!. You will lose nothing and still have everything you had before. Should repair the problem.
You will pick up some or all of MS's junk, but can remove that.

Good Luck, Jim

"Just Re-install Windows!"

Because I was assuming you meant uninstall it permanently and because it would be futile considering this is the only computer out of 3 that I had problems with Avast on.

Thanks but I'd rather not reinstall windows over itself, I heard that can cause numerous problems, even if everyone says it'll be fine, I know I'll encounter some unexpected problem, it happens every time. As I must state everytime, this computer was aquired second hand meaning I have almost none of the drivers/software that is currently present on the system in their CD form meaning I would loose a lot of stuff.

I can't do a full reinstall seeing as how I have NO real backup method for all my files on there, please don't say put it on floppies because I have over 1 GB of data and some of the files won't fit on a floppy.

I'll try reinstalling Avast and will get back to you on this.

Thanks,
Faris,

I can't imagine anyone nowadays recommending backing up to floppy disk. :)
