chips compatible with the 75's socket are no longer made (very old). if you want to upgrade cheaply you could just change your motherboard and chip. you can get a socket A board and amd athlon thunderbird for about £100 (sometimes less). you would probably also need to upgrade your psu because a bigger chip needs a fan and heatsink.

if you're a student go to studentcomputers.com who have some super deals (in the UK)
or novatech.co.uk are good value for money and you wouldn't have to buy a monitor if you don't want...

I hope that helps :)

definatly for an old computer like that its near to impossible to upgrade. the only way to get parts is from old used computers that people have given away. the best advice for upgrading an OOOOLLLDDD computer like that is to buy 32 or 64mb of edo. edo is very expensive and not really worth it.

i would suggest you follow the advice that others have given you and just get a new computer.

$50 amd duron 1ghz cpu
$50 ecs ks75a motherboard [or another cheap one]
$35 enermax 300watt supply [or a psu of ratings-- 3v 20a, 5v 30a, 12v 15a; or higher]
$40 128mb of ddr2100
$40cheap video card. [gf2 mx 200 32mb or cheaper card]
------
$220 or less, and you would see a 25x improvement

or you could get a computer from me! :)

A 200 MMX will fit on a motherboard with a pentium 75 on it now, it just might not work. Either go to the manufacturer's site for the motherboard manual or open the case up and look at the board. A 75 mhz has a board frequency of 50 mhz and a multiplier of 1.5. For a 200 to work on it you'll need a speed of 66mhz and a multiplier of 3. If it's a socket 5 I don't think it goes that high. If it's a socket 7 it will. Both sockets are physically identical so you can't tell by looking at them. You'll have to search for the jumpers and see how they're identified.

In addition, to use an MMX the board will need to have a 55C jumper setting or have a voltage setting of 2.8v.
