Hello! Suddenly I am unable to open .pdf files in Internet Explorer. This is a work computer and part of my daily duties is to check the internet for bids.
This is what happens:
(1) there is a link to a bid document (2) I click on the link and a new window opens up (3) .pdf file does not open, the only thing on the screen is a small box with a red "X" mark in the middle.I never had a problem before...but my boss does come in on the weekends with his kids and they "play" on the computer.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciate.
Thank you! :)

What Acrobat Reader version are you using? Does it work on saved downloads of them, and if not do older saves still work?
It's just that they often upgrade file types so you might need to update your Acrobat Reader.

I agree with Derek on the Adobe problem. Assuming you're using Adobe to view pdfs, what version do you have? Soylent Green is PEOPLE!!!
When you install Acrobat Reader, it installs a BHO (Browser Helper Object) which it uses to detect when a PDF is being accessed across HTTP. Chances are, someones run HijackThis! or a similar antispyware tool, and disabled the BHO. Check if "use 3rd part extensions" is checked in the Advanced tab in the internet explorer settings, if it's still ticked, then your only realistic option is to download and reinstall acrobat reader. // Impavidus
