I dont know why Windows 98se's System Information shows that pctwave.inf is not Installed. This would be after multiple re-installations of the PCTel HSP56 micromodem(including serial wave device). Would aproblem such as this affect connectivity? Is there a solution for this? siasfam@absamail.co.za

Yes you need to find the proper drivers windows will never recognize this modem without the drivers. Here are the instructions and the web site to download and fix your problem. http://www.pctel.com/win98_install.php

An uninstalled wave file shouldn't affect modem operation.
DanielG's link should help but you should be able to click on it in device manager and then click 'reinstall drivers'. You may need to browse your installation disk for the .inf file.
