Ive noticed how there are a ton of topics complaining about the HSP6 Micromodem. I also hate it...it connects slow, it sometimes doesnt even connect, and its very unreliable. Does anyone have any solutions to this? I am considering buying a new modem. I would appreciate any suggestions on a good affordable 56k Modem! thanks for any help.

Read this and then go out and buy a real external modem. Even good ones are fairly cheap.

Adding... ive installed these modems on everything from 98se to xp pro. No drivers required as windows recognizes it under every OS.

I bought a USR External Modem a while ago which was 99 dollars and it was really bad. It connected highest at 26 kbps. I thought spending extra would solve my problem but it didnt so I returned it and now I want a reliable yet well priced modem. USR is a bad company now ever since they got sold out by 3com, but Ive heard good things about their older modems. Some people have recommended I buy any modem as long as it has a Lucent Chipset.

just get a cable modem, there faster and more reliable than dsl. you will not have to buy a modem, the cable company leases one to you.

for a cable modem you only pay around 45 a month. but you will no longer need your second phone line (if you have one) and you will not need your current (probably $20 a month) isp.

you will get a web page based email account, and if you dont like it, then get one at yahoo, or hotmial, etc.

you might even be able to get a deal with your cable company that gets the firt 3 months free, or cheaper or some kind of deal for firt time customers....

you probably already knew all of this, but anyone who has dial up and a second phone line is being ripped off.
