Hi Everybody,

I've got a situation on my hands i hope you can help me with. I have a Toshiba Satellit 205 CDS Laptop with only a floppy drive and PCM-CIA Card. I would like to put some files on the laptop.

I hear it is possible transfer files via the pcm-cia card. How do i go about doing this? (the laptop does not have internet access).

Thank you for your time,
DB

For pcmcia transfer, you need a "flash ata card" or a "1.8 hdd"

Flash ATA Cards come in 2mb and up flavors and usually fit a Type I pcmcia slot.

A typical 1.8" hdd is the Viper Drive. Mine are 260 and 340Mb drives. They fit in a Type III pcmcia slot.

If my memory is correct, your 205CDS will accept a Type I, II, or III pcmcia card. It doesn't have usb and 16bit pcmcia cards, to my knowledge, do not exist. This machine will not work with any of the 32bit cardbus pcmcia cards I've tried...they have to be forced in and still aren't recognized.

I use a pci slotted pcmcia adapter in my desktop and regularly transfer files to and from laptops.

All the above gear I own came off ebay at minimal expense. Something like 30 bucks for the 2 Viper Drives, 2 Flash ATA cards, and pcmcia card adaptors. I even came up with one adaptor that is powered by keyboard ports and connects to the parallel port. That thing will work on about any desktop machine ever built.

The laptop I use for work has no floppy or cd-rom and I don't want to carry all that old external stuff around.

Your Toshiba should accept about any 16bit pcmcia card ever produced. In addition to the above drives, it'll do a modem, wired or wireless 16bit network card, pcmcia cd-rom, etc. I've not found a 16bit usb or firewire card.
