WIN 98se, 48ram

Hi guys,
I have an old laptop which dosn't have usb so I bought a PCMCIA usb2.0 Cardbus for it. I've installed the Cardworks software which came with the laptop and i've got the PCMCIA sockets recognised. But when I plugin the new card it isn't recognised. I have an old PCMCIA modem which is recognised and works fine when plugged in, but the new usb2.0 one isn't even recognised, both Cardworks and the Windows PCMCIA card utility in Control Panel say the socket is empty. The computer makes a beep when a card is inserted and removed, but I only get the beep when I remove it. The card says it supports windows 98se which is what i'm running. I have two sockets, one for type I and type II and one for type III, i've tried it in both and neither recognises it. Why? Why? Why?

First is the Laptop compatable with 32bit PCMCIA CARDBUS Cards ??????

Secondly ALL USB Cards are 32bit Cardbus.........and also the Laptop BIOS must have USB support.

Otherwise it is no dice.................
