I ran it to the same error printing from UNISYS's ROC program. The report was printing to a HP4050 using the native driver. I eliminated this error by using the HP Laserjet driver. In my case the non Windows printing environment was the cause of the problem because ALL other programs printed fine.
Good Luck.
I encountered that problem printing from an NT 4.0 box to an HP 4050 TN.
We resolved this issue by deleting all printers, rebooting the system (NT 4.0 Workstation) and reinstalling the printers.

We ran into that problem, trying to print a color logo, on a hp b/w printer. Removed logo, replaced it with a b/w one, printed fine.

I am getting this error when printing from Lotus Notes 4.5.4 but only on when printing certain documents from certain forms. It only happens to some users and they are at remote locations so it is difficult to troubleshoot. All users are on Win 95 printing to an HP printer. It appears by reading the replies that only HP printers are affected. Any other comments???

I have encountered similar messages even when printing a Windows test page to an HP LaserJet 6P. It is on a network of 3PCs + 1 printer - should I delete ALL printers from ALL PCs before re-installing drivers?

PCL XL error

Position: 0This happens to some of our users when printing MS Excel 97 tables on a HP Lasjet 8100n.
I'm getting this with a user also; it's on a standalone Laserjet 4050. Sometimes power cycle will fix it for a few pages. This really sucks.
The PCL/XL error is a problem with all newer laserjets, 4000, 4050's, 6000's and 8000's. Generally changing the driver to a lower version ie. Laserjet 4, will allow you to print. However you will not have access to the higer level print functions, 1200 dpi or Postscript features. I have also heard that updating to HP's latest driver for the 4050 can fix the problem.
Finally! I fixed this problem by installing an IEEE 1284 printer cable. Who'da thunk it?
I get this error on a HP 4550N sometimes. Ususally printing a powerpoint presentation or something. The printer is networked.
