My PC:
Intel P4-2.8 MHz - 800FSB
Motherboard-Intel D865PERL
RAM-512 MB
AGP-GForce Fx5200 128 MB
Creative PCI Modem Blaster

Though I have on-baord sound, I installed INTEX PCI sound card (AU8330 with CS4624 chip). After installation of drivers, I get an error message that the card is not inserted in the Primary PCI slot. The gameport is also not configured.

PLease help. Thanx.

Did you UNINSTALL the old sound drivers before installing the new card? Also, did you disable the on-board sound after removing the drivers? What you should normally do, is remove existing sound drivers, reboot go to the BIOS and disable the on-board sound. Then, install your card and install the new drivers. This usually works.

Ok ... I disbaled on-board audio in the BIOS, quick formatted the C Drive and did a clean install of Win98 SE. Then I installed only the mobo INF updates and ensured that the on-board audio drivers were not installed. Next I installed the PCI sound card drivers, but THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE!!

PLEASE HELLLPPP!!

I don't understand the error message (primary PCI slot?), so I can't help with the problem.
But for future reference, it is not necessary to disable an onboard audio adapter when installing a sound card. Windows is capable of handling multiple sound adapters.

Thanx Ken. That was informative.

The exact error message which appears every time during boot-up with window title 'Aureal A3D' is:
"Your Vortex adapter is not plugged into the Primary PCI Bus. The MPU401, joystick, modem and Sound Blaster capabilities may not work in a Secondary PCI Bus. Please consult your users manual for moore details. Do you want this message displayed in the future?"

Does this ring a bell?!

Ok .. I followed the instructions given at http://members.optushome.com.au/kirben/intel.html.

During reboot, the O/S identified all components of the PCI card and installed the drivers. But when it came to identifying the 'Sound Blaster Emulation', it would ask for the INF file location and then simply hang !! I have to either boot in safe-mode or pull out the PCI card to boot normally. So where do we go from here? Thanx.
