Well you've probably heard this about 80 times but I can't seem to find anything like mine here. I was wondering if you guys could help me fix my sound. The ports are connected to my motherboard and my motherboard is I believe a: Intel 82443LX/EX Pentium(r) II Processor to PCI bridge, or: Intel 82443LX/EX Pentium(r) II Processor to AGP. Both are listed in my Device Manager. If you can help me it would be very helpful. Thanks again.

That's your sound card. If it's on-board you can get the drivers from the motherboard or system manufacturer's site. If it's an add-on card you may need something like Everest to identify it or open the case and look for the chipset or model # on the card.

I ended up finding drivers (CS460) on an old IBM Diagnostics and Utilites CD I had. But another problem came up after that. My multimedia icon in the control panel doesn't bring up options. It just sits there, know what the problem is? I could bring it up before I restarted, thinking that would solve the still no sound problem and I could bring up the multimedia options and select the volume control to go into the taskbar, but that didn't work out. Please help, thanks.

DAVEINCAPS responded 11 minutes after you posted but an hour later you had already done what you thought was best.

If you want help you have to be able to accept that help. If you don't want help and just need a sounding board for your ideas then tell them you your dog or sister or husband.

I would suggest that you have installed incorrect drivers for your particular sound device. You need to identify your sound card device first and then get the appropriate drivers for that device as DAVEINCAPS advised.

Yeah, it's either the wrong drivers--does it show OK in device manager?--or maybe the multimedia components need to be reinstalled. You can go to add/remove programs in control panel, click the 'windows setup' tab and scroll down to multimedia.
