Comment:

i have a compaq deskpro p2 330, 64mb ram.

I have an "unknown" standard PCI graphics adapter (vga), which only allows me 16 colour.

I have tried many different ways of improving this, including selecting all the different makes and models of adapter and downloading their respective drivers..(including "matrox millenium and mystique" drivers, and compaqs own drivers)

it actually worked for ten seconds using "oak technology" selection, but it was just teasing.

can anyone PLEASE help, as im tired of seeing everything as a blur.

how do i find out what make this adapter is, as it has no markings that i can see, and how do i fix it so i get at LEAST 256 colour.

IM ALSO AVAILABLE ON ICQ:26899422

THANX IN ADVANCE

I do not understand, what do you mean "unknown" Doesn't Compaq come with their own video adapter. Where did this adapter come from.

Try looking at the main chip, more than likely it is a Trident card. Also if it is a VGA card than it should display 256 color with not problems...

Please repost...

Yes you have the wrong drivers installed on your machine. You need to find out exactly what you have by opening up your machine and seeing what it says. Trident, diamond it will probably be. But if you still cant figure out what card it is call compaq and tell them what you have(machine wise plus serial #) and they will tell you what kind of card it is, that is if it is all factory default setup ok. I hope this helps you ..!!

Also if you still can't find the make. Run the FCI number on the card. This should give you a run down on the manufacturer of the card, the numbers usually start with FCC or better yet go to the below site and read up on it. This might help or might not but here's the info. http://www.fcc.gov/oet/fccid/

I HAVE SOLVED IT !!!!!
(I mean, some Internet site told me how to solve this).
Download the software SiSoft Sandra 99 at:

http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10102-108-35399.html?tag=st.dl.10102.upd.10102-108-35399

This software tells you exactly what PCI card do you have (mine is SiS 5597/8).

Then you go to the manufacturer's site (mine was SiS=Silicon Integrated Systems) and upload the driver for Win98.

Now I not only have 256 colors, but also 16-bit and 24-bit True Color (at choice).

Hope this help other desperate PC owners like myself.

Hello, I have spent hours updating a computer regarding Cirrus Logic PCI graphics card 5465 and 5464. I found drivers at Www.windrivers.com. However can only get 16 color. Help Win 95 then detects conflicts then it wants me to install PCI adapter. Please help untangle my confusion. I understand that I plugged the cirrus card into a PCI slot..Then it asks for drivers well I have a file of cirrus but I do not have a file for PCI adapter. HELO
