My roommates PC will not boot up, at all!! When we turn the power on, the green power light on the tower can be seen and that's it. You can't hear the hard drive being accesed, no beeps, no keyboard lights come on, nothing. The monitor just sits there with the message, "No Signal". Now, I know that last night we had a strong wind storm and our power fickered on and off. My roommates keeps his PC on all the time and before he went to bed last night he turned off his monitor while a screen saver, he thinks is called "Freespace", was running. When he woke up this morning his PC was on, but when he turned on his monitor nothing was there. This is when the problem started. Everything worked fine the day before. He's used this screen saver many times before, but only on his old motherboard, I really can't see this being the problem. Has anyone ever heard of a screen saver causing a problem like this?? We've tried unplugging the PC from the wall and letting it sit for a few minutes to see if anything would reset. We've tried unplugging everything and hooking it all back up again, nothing has worked. We do have an old motherboard that we are thinking of swapping out, don't know if that will make a difference or not, but it's worth a try. I don't thinks it's a virus, the only thing he says he downloaded recently were some fonts for photoshop.

System Specs:
AMD Athlon 900
ASUS K7V Motherboard (ASUS K7M is the old MB)
Creative Labs GeForce DDR video card
128 megs of PC 100 RAM
13gig harddrive (master)
3.5gig hardrive (slave)

Please Help. If you need more info, please ask. Thanks.

Had this problem last night with an Athlon 700. Re-seat the processor, ram and cards. If your computer was not plugged into a surge protector, the flickering of the power could of damaged the board. We had the same problem with things not booting, and we simply re-seated the processor and it worked. Good luck.

Also, unplug his entire system from the wall outlet and let it stay unplugged for about 10 minutes. Worked for me.

Tom and Harry, thank you for your help. I tried both of your suggestions and unfortunately neither were successful. I was about to swap out the motherboards when I remembered that I could reset the bios by touching two metal tabs together using a screwdriver. After finding the correct tabs and a screwdriver that could make the connection, I hooked the PC back up and she booted right to the bios screen. Everything seems okay, and the system booted to windows just fine.

Thanks again for your help. I really appreciate it =)

One more thing. Is there anything in the bios that needs to be changed from its default when using an AMD Athlon 900mhz. processor or are the default settings okay?
