Pc Speaker AST Laptop

I have installed the Pc Speaker from the microsoft website it works but when the sount comes out i can hear what it is playing (just) because it crakles. Can someone help with with this i have a 486 AST laptop. I Had an other old 486 laptop and the pc speaker driver worked PERFECTLY on it..please help.

By 'PC Speaker' I assume you mean the software that allowed the PC speaker to play the windows sounds.
Most likely it's the speaker itself that's the problem. I don't know what's in the AST but if it's one of those piezo-type speakers, they're really only good for beeping. If it's a regular speaker it may be damaged.
