pc shutting off by it self

Out of the blue my pc has started shutting it self down at the wierdest times & for no reason. I've run adaware 6 & removed any spy ware, but still it keeps shutting down when ever it feels like it. I've not added anything new lately, or removed any programs. Can someone please give me some insite on this problem.? thanks, Maxx

Check out the CPU Heat in the BIOS, maybe your BIOS is configured to shut off after the CPU reaches a certain temperature.

Open the case and check the following: 1. CPU fan spinning properly not sticking, etc.) 2. Dust bunnies inside the case around the fan blades 3. Dust or crud around the memory sticks or on the MoBo.
I'd say your problem sounds like heat buildup. AMD processors are known for this

Thanks people, I'll check that but I normally clean the fans twice a month. My machine just started doing it too, I have 2 of the same machines, got them on a deal in May of 2003 & up till now they've been running fine. I'll post again if this doesn't work. Thanks again, Maxx

Well I spent a couple of hours cleaned out both pc's last night & I must admitt, they sound allot better & so far haven't had either one shut off on its own. But I will keep you posted if it happens again. Is there a way I can install a better fan or more then one fan.? thanks, maxx...
