This pc has win98se and it is PIII 128k and belongs to my daughter. She mentionted me that she turned on the pc and all what she got is the screen with some little garbage where the cursor apperaed but the arrow of the mouse is not in view. I tried to start in safe mode and really it does not respond anything at all. How could I do to start al least in safe mode.

Does it boot to Dos Standalone?
Can you boot a win98 startup floppy?Do yourself a favor BACKUP!

"Can you boot a win98 startup floppy?"
Have you tried the above mentioned by ham30? Your response didn't clearly state this. There are a number of repair tools on a 98 startup floppy.
If you did try this, did you notice anything different from a "regular" startup? (You may have to set the machines startup devices to the floppy drive as the first device for booting in the systems bios.)

Tks fy reply just I dowloaded a win98 start floppy then I inserted intothe pc and turn on but nothing happens,no beeps only the led of the cd blinks and that is all. Is correct to insert the floppy and nothing more.

Yes that's correct.
Did you "create" the boot floppy on the other machine? If you just put the downloaded file onto the floppy then this won't work.
DerekW

Grab the bootdisk which is here*
*The above bootdisk image file is a self extracting file and has to be executed (run) from a running Windows machine in order to create the actual startup diskette. (This image file produces the same bootdisk which 98SE creates.) This downloaded image file will format the floppy disk, write the files to the disk, then verify the file write, so it'll take a minute or three to create the bootdisk.Ensure the floppy drive is set as the first boot device in the bios.
When you boot a machine with this boot floppy, it creates a RAMDRIVE in system memory to contain DOS system tools. Thus it will move your "normal" CDROM device/drive letter "up" one level. (If your CDROM is normally E:, it will be F: when booting with this bootdisk.)

I am sorry for not understanding I have put the downloaded disk into the bad pc so how can I create the boot disk in the other machine.

See Dan's post #6 (first large paragraph).
As far as I can see you just double click the file on the good machine and it should create the floppy (unless you haven't got Winzip or similar on the good machine).
DerekW

Derek is correct. Just click on the downloaded file, winzip is not required. It's a self extracting file.

Sorry Dan, I went brain dead on the self extracting bit. Still, even Mary Poppins is only "practically" perfect LOL.
DerekW

Derek, the poster didn't understand, and you clarified. No need for a "sorry". ;>)
