My PC hangs WAY too often.
Whenever I open Word to do some work (saving to a floppy) and view some html files with IE (opened both applications simultaneously)for more than a couple hours, the PC hangs.
This started happening after I started using The Cleaner (used it a couple of times), Ad-aware (I deleted some aureate spyware in Flashget with it, and that was all), and PGP (never touched it). I'm not sure which of these softwares are responsible for the hanging problem but it has to be one of them, because my PC was working fine until I started installing them.
What could be the problem? What can I do to fix it? Would it help if I deleted these sftewares? Please help!
FYI: I use Windows 98 SE, with AMD Athlon chip, with 128MB RAM.
Thanks in advance,
Arianna

UNinstall the cleaner, not really needed...if that dont help keep a eye on system resources while working ( right mouse on my computer icon and go to properties then click performance tab. Also reduce the things running in background ( system tray ) bottom right section of desktop.

It also may be a good idea to reinstall Word and IE.
For IE go to Control Panel - Add Remove Programs and select MS Internet Explorer.
Should be the option to reinstall or repair. Go for the RepairHope This Helps you solve your problem.

Arianna...Chappie and T2 are correct...however, I would hold Chappie's advice until last...
Many of these little downloadable programs are well intended but not well written and probably the compatibility testing has been minimal at best...
And in certain combinations some of these little programs cause problems with other programs and before you know it...bad things start to happen...
Take T2's suggestions and remove EVERYTHING you don't need...all those little downloadable programs that you tried once or twice and forgot about...Dump your temp files...dump your .chk files...do a scan disk and a defrag...
Then see if you are still hanging up...if so then do as Chappie suggests...
Hope this helps
Steve
