If you are getting the password screen when you first boot your PC then there is a good chance this is a CMOS password. The way to tell is to look at the screen you are presented with. Does it look like a DOS screen? a.k.a. the black screen with the really ugly text.

If this is a CMOS password then you can reset it by taking out the motherboard battery and leaving the computer unplugged for at least 10 minutes. I recommend you get this done by a professional because you can zap your PC if you aren't careful.

Hope this helps you.

May also just be a user password in the bios, in which case, it can be changed by entering the bios set-up, and re-setting it manually.

It may be a BIOS password, but how does one accidentally enter the BIOS setup, tab to the security field, type in the password TWICE, and save the changes and exit? I guess I'm wondering, for my own benefit, how you set a BIOS password simply by "touching" something.

Hi All,

Stranger things. First as Quatfo and determine if it is the Bios that is is asking for the password.

Second if it is the bios then post back with the bios version. It will be display on the computer before it ask for the password.
If you are not comfortable with removing the battery or moving the jumper on the motherboard then there are default passwords that will work.

Need to know the bios and version to give the correct password though.

I.E. Ambios ver.4.102

Third if it is not the Bios password and it is the windows network log on window then simply press ESC.

Brent,

Kids will be kids. May have hit delete during startup and selected the password option. Followed the instructions and when it did not come up after the next boot said something to the effect of "I don't know, I just touched that key".

Kinda funny as my girlfriends son has done some amazing (amazingly brutal I should say to my PC).

He now has his own PC and must endeer the painful process of troubleshooting and fixing along my side.

Seemed to work.
He now will ask many questions before doing something!!

Take Care All,
Mesich
