partitioning hard drive

what really happened is that my cd-rom drive messed up on my old Acer and I took it apart. I then connected it again and I could only get into DOS and my Win 95 boot disk wasn't helping. SO I made a Win 98 boot disk and it told me it was either a virus or I needed to partition the hard drive. I'll probably just buy a new hard drive. Remember I only have a diskette drive( if you want to help). Also if anyone plays starcraft online contact me concerning a new clan starting up.
