My earlier msg wasn't complete - Thanks to those who sent msgs. I have already converted to FAT32 after fdsik mistake (ignoring the fact it created 2 partitions, one of which is inaccessible to me)and installed Win98. I again tried fdsik BUt when I get to "create extended memory chain" I think I make the right choice BUT prompt tells me my actions are gonna wipe out everything on HD - any way to make correct choice so the 1.2gb of inaccessible space can be addressed and formatted for use without disturbing, altering or erasing everything I already have? I guess I'd like to end up with a new drive (e.g.: "G") for storage of files, not programs. Thanks for any responses.

It is possible using Partition Magic, otherwise you must delete the extended DOS partition, create a new one and then your logical drives. That will mean that you will loose the contents of the drive and must reformat.
