As most people do in developing web pages they save their pics as .jpg's because their file size is small. For some reason Paint won't let me save any picture as .jpg. It only gives me the option of saving the picture as BMP's and GIF's. I thought is was my registry so i restored it from a week back and that didn't work. i belive the problem is that in I'm using the IE 5.5 beta and that corrupted my registry. I really don't want to format so if anyone has any idea's, let me know. Thx to anyone who replies.

Have you tried the "Export" option?
Instead of "save" or "save as". Then use file format, then look at the bottom at the pull down and search for .jpg option.
Good Luck

Go to add/remove programs, windows setup and select details on Accessories & install Imaging. If you want a really good image program go get acdsee.
Paint is for bitmap files.

You can't save as JPG because Paint does not support that file format. The program GraphX Viewer, which is freeware, can open and save in quite a few file formats. You could use Paint to create the pics and GraphX to convert them as needed.

My Paint program lets me save in these formats: JPEG, BMP, GIF. There is definitely something not right with your program; you should be able to save in JPEG format. Paint is not just for BMP's

Paint doesnt natively support saving pictures as bitmaps, but after you install microsoft office with microsoft photo editor, paint will then allow you to save as .jpgs

In actual fact - MSPaint BEFORE Win98SE does not support any other format but Bitmaps. After this edition it does.

You can get Hypersnap which is a screen capture program. You download the trial version which puts a legend on the picture, and you have to pay for a serial number to stop putting on the legend. The trial doesn't expire however. --- Also you can get IFRANVIEW which is a freeware, it will open most formats except AOL Gifs. Then resave it. Just do a search by name. I don't have the links anymore.

If you want the real complete answer go to my website. Check the Advanced Tips link on my Tips & Tricks page.
It has nothing to do with before Windows 98 or after. It has to do with whether or not you have the necessary graphics filters on your system, and the necessary entries in the Registry. I have JPEG and GIF filters on my site available for download, as well as a complete explanation of what to do including editing the Registry.
Personally, like Mad Mike said, I would use IrfanView instead. I have info and a link for it on my site as well.
