i have an intel celeron2 600mhz....i can not find anywhere/anyone that can tell me how to overclock it. ive heard they overclock great. but i have no idea. if anyone can help i would be more than appreciative..here are my cpu/motherboard/bios specs if they help. email me if you can
I've been trying to figure out if I can overclock my Emachines ETower 600is. I don't know whether the system bus can be adjusted above 66 mhz.
How do I find out?

I've checked at pcfactoryoutlet, but they don't have a listing for the type of motherboard in the 600is. I've sent an email to emachines help, and they sent me this list of specs:

600is general specs:

Anaheim2/Anaheim2a Motherboard Upgrade Information

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
------
CAUTION Only authorized service personnel should upgrade the system.
Anyone who wants to upgrade the system herself/himself should know about
the dangers of ESD (Electro-Static Discharge) and the necessary
precautions. Unknowingly zapping the components of the computer will void
the warranty.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
------

CPU
The Anaheim2 motherboard uses the CS 4280 Audio Chipset. The Anaheim2a
motherboard uses the CS 4281 Audio Chipset. All other motherboard
components are identical.
The motherboard supports the 370 pin PGA370 socket. The Processor's VID
pins automatically program the voltage regulator on the motherboard to the
required processor voltage. The motherboard supports processors that run
internally at 300/333/366/400/433/466/500/533/566/600/???MHz.

Supported Intel PPGA Processors (66 MHz) bus
Celeron® 400
Celeron® 433
Celeron® 466
Celeron® 500
Celeron® 533
Celeron II® (Coppermine core) 533 (FC-PGA)
Celeron II® (Coppermine core) 566 (FC-PGA)
Celeron II® (Coppermine core) 600 (FC-PGA)
Jumpers are not required to set the CPU speed/voltage.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
------

RAM
The motherboard has two DIMM (Dual Inline Memory Module) sockets (one
populated from the factory). The BIOS can automatically detect the memory
type, size, and speed through SMBUS interface between the core chipset and
DIMM module.

DIMM Specifications
168 Pin DIMM SDRAM
3.3 Volts
Unbuffered
Non-ECC (Non Parity)
100 MHz PC100
Single or Double Sided
Supports 16 MB, 32 MB, 64 MB, or 128 MB for a maximum of 256 MB on board.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
------

AUDIO
Disable the onboard sound card prior to installing a new sound card. To
disable the onboard sound:
Move Jumper J7 from pins 1-2 to pins 2-3 (see layout)
Move Jumper J9 from pins 1-2 to pins 2-3 (see layout)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
------

Video
The onboard AGP video card cannot be upgraded. An added PCI video card
will disable the onboard AGP graphics.

Any idea if I can overclock? or would I have to get a new motherboard?

Check out this web page about o/c the celeron, but I don't think you can do anything with your board, as I can't do anything with my Toshiba V3100 either.

The coppermine based Celeron 600 can be clocked up to 800Mhz reliably without use of extra heat fans at Freqs between 68-85Mhz without changing core voltages which I wouldn't recommend. Many boards allow you to change the freq selections in bios without dealing with jumpers on the board itself. The system reliability mostly relies on whether or not your hardware that you have installed such as your video card can handle the higher PCI bus frequency. Celerons are great overclockers because of the Coppermine technology that allows the chip to achieve higher clock speeds at lower bus speeds and voltage, thus allowing the CPU to stay much cooler in overclocking situations. The only differences between the celeron coppermine and the pentium 2 or 3 is the bus speed, and the internal cache. The Pentium III uses 256kb cache with a higher bus speed than the Celeron which uses a 128 cache, but other than that, the two models are almost identacle. So, in closing, your chip should clock up to 90Mhz (100mhz with voltage change)90 being as high as you would want to push your chip. I would recommend a 75-80mhz. Good luck. By the way, I'm running a Celeron 700 overclocked to an 870mhz.

Try going in to BIOS.To do that you have to hit the DEL key when you start your PC(right after the memory test).A friend of mine had an E-Machine and the FSB was accessible from the BIOS.I`m surprised they put 32mb of RAM to run WinMe.Well, what do you expect from an E-machine.

To answer your original question, partyguy, No, as your system stands, you can not overclock it. You will need a new mb because the one you have supports only up to 600Mhz. I haven't tried one in my emachine, but Biostar & Amptron (neither very high quality, much like the original Trigem motherboard in there) make boards that look like they would fit with the correct number of slots and onboard 'stuff'.
