I just got a PII 350 with an Asus P2B-F motherboard.
How or Should I overclock this CPU, and what speed is a reasonable speed?
I’ve heard of a multiplier lock feature on some PIIs (depending on date of purchase) but I’m not sure what it means when trying to overclock the CPU. Please let me know if you any suggestions. Thanks

You can look in your owners manual for the jumper settings to change your clock speed.
If you do over clock you run the risk of burning out your cpu. You have a PII 350 be happy. I have a P 166 that I've over clocked to 180. I would not over clock more then 10%. If you don't have an owners manual look here http://users.evitech.fi/~jarnomn/

E-me. There is a program called FSB that lets you overclock your forward bus speed. I can run my PII 350 between 389.5mhz and 464mhz. Cooling is the key.

I have a pII 350 clocked to 490 It was clocked at 466 and has been running great! I think the only way to do it is to change the front side bus. Oh I also have a asus p2b (love it!) I know this setup works great. make sure not to over clock your agp too much if at all. you can get 466 out of it and not overclock your agp. however if you want to go more (like me) you will have to over clock your agp, pci and isa. (do so @ your own risk)

You can unlock any PII/350 by covering CPU pin B21 (adhesive tape). Mine is running fine at 448Mhz (4 x 112). Read about the procedure here: http://www.tomshardware.com/Celeronto100.html

My mother board lets me change fsb up to 133mhz but system becomes unstable, I think its because I need to increase the voltage supplied to the PII

umm...I got a PII 350 on an Intel BX440 board. How the f**k can I overclock the thing, since there are no jumpers on this board. is there a soft solution (FSB..)?
And what about covering pin B21, even if the CPU is unlocked then, how do I change the clocking?

thanx

I just overclocked my PII 350 to 467 (via 133 on the FSB) and it is as stable as it was when it was @ 350. I have an AOpen AX6BC and 3 fans on my CPU. I also have 1 case fan. My Annihilator Pro (AGP) is completely happy at this speed. I have successfully played UT, Q3A, Q2 etc. for hours and not one lock up. The only "problem" I see is that sometimes when my system posts it doesn't display my CPU speed or memory (which is PC-100). Most of the time it displays it all fine. Other than that, no probs!! Good luck!!

I practised on a couple of 486's, and found that they worked fine over-clocked, didn't over heat at all... except that after that they couldn't load Windows 95, ever... Processers were still fine, but motherboards will never load windows (error loading kernel). I wonder if some newer computers do this, or if it is only a problem with 16-bit buses and 32-bit operating systems...

Running a PII350 @ 392 for over a year, runs great. May push harder soon (just for fun)

Win 95 fairly sensitive to overclocking in general, Win98 much more forgiving = stable!
as far as overclocking... but its still windows so you know it will crash anyway/sometime.

Make sure you are using quality PC100 memory, there is a lot of crap out that that is just not fast enough. If you are using multiple DIMM's look at them, make sure they are runing the same speed (all RAM is NOT the same)

Ocasionall you have to push the core voltage, the chip can handle it - go for it!

Use a decent chip fan, add as many case fans as you can (they are cheap) heat is your enemy! Also, buy the biggest case you have room for... small cases build and contain more heat... If you have a small case, consider venting the top (break out the drill, and yes, remove it from the system before you do)

If you are running a PCI video card for some silly reason... get an AGP replacement if your board supports it, this alone may speed your perception of the system. If the video is lagging... it affects how your system feels.

If you are running anything less than 128 megs of RAM... why? Win 98 will gobble almost 64 on a fresh boot... 128 is practically minimum anymore. Trust me. If you multitask a lot or work with huge graphic files, like I do... 384megs is not uncommon.

Hope this helps, Have fun kiddies.

I have an IBM Aptiva L5H. It had a 233 PII MXX in it, but I got a PII 350 from a friend. I put the jumpers on JP7 at the 1-2, and 3-4 spots but it still says I'm running at 233. Anyway to fix this or overclock? Or can I not do this all together?

I have a PII 350 with a Intel SE440BX MB. I've tried doing the B21 pin cover up (via tomshardware.com) but nothing happen. I think this is because the FSB is already at 100Mhz. Can someone help out please.

Why are you P-II 350 owners trying to tape up tracer B21??????

The B21 tracer trick is to fool your mother board into thinking that you have a 100MHz FBS processor....and if you don't even know that your processor is already running at 100MHz FBS you shouldn't be trying to clock the thing to begin with!

This B21 pin (tracer) trick is for Celeron owners who are only running at a 66MHz FBS!

How do you raise the FBS higher than 100mhz. I do not have the soft keys in my bios and only have jumpers for 66 and 100mhz. I am running a pII350 from HP with 440bx but do not know what board it is.
