Until recently, Outlook Express 6.0 always asked for my mailbox identity password. (We have several identities for each user's privacy) Now when I open OE, it opens my mailbox without a password. How can I require OE to ask for my password when opening the program?
I've tried File>Identities>Manage Identities>Properties>Change Password, but even with the "require password" box checked, it still opens automatically without my password. I prefer to keep my E-mail private and not allow anyone who open Outlook Express to read it.
Thank you !!!

Hi Dave,
Go into File>Identities>Manage Identities>Properties>Change Password and remove all the passwords, select OK, Then reboot, now reset your password and reboot when you have closed the selection box. hope this helps Dave, have a nice day.

Thanks for the suggestion. I gave it a try, but still no luck. Perhaps there is an OE update that will fix the bug.
Thanks again.

Ray's reply is about making the connection betwen the OE client and the server (effectively the 2nd part of getting OE6 running).
But I think Dave's question is about having OE prompt for a password when launching one of the Identities configured to use OE on his PC (effectively the 1st part of getting OE6 running).
I mention this because I am having this latter problem, following a re-install of XP Pro (incl. OE6, etc......). This re-install includes a much later set of updates and service packs, so I wonder...
In any case, I will be watching this thread, and have posted this question to the M$ support newsgroup. I'll let you all know if anything useful comes up over there <g>.

I resolved my version of the problem by "simply" re-installing OE6. MS KB318378 refers. And now, with no funky registry hacks or other such scary stuff, OE6 prompts me for my Identity password when I expect it to.
Maybe it will work for you too.

I have a similar problem. I added an identity that did not have a password. My original identity now has one that came from somewhere and I of course do not know what it is. The act of adding a fourth identity somehow assigned a password to the third. Any idea how to recover???
