Hello folks!, I'm having a problem with Outlook Express 5.5 SP2 with the latest patches. I've installed MSN Messenger past yesterday and everything works perfectly, but there's something I don't like: every time I load Outlook Express, it automatically loads MSN Messenger!. And when I close OE, it doesn't close the messenger proggy. I've looked for information even on Microsoft's Knowledge Base webpage, but I couldn't find any answer. Does anyone know how to make Outlook Express not to automatically load MSN Messenger?. Or at least to unload it when closed?. Thanks!!!

Go to your msconfig and disable it for startup. It should be in there under MSMSGS then reboot system and then you can call it up when you want it.

This tweak is used to remove MSN Instant Messenger functionality and integration from Outlook Express.

Open your registry and find the key below. You may need to create the key, if it does not already exist.

Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value, called 'Hide Messenger' and edit the value according to the settings below.

Exit your registry, you may need to restart or log out of Windows for the change to take effect.

(Default) REG_SZ (value not set)
Hide Messenger REG_DWORD 0x00000002 (2)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Registry Settings
System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Outlook Express]
Value Name: Hide Messenger
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: (2 = remove messenger)

Disclaimer: Modifying the registry can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. We cannot guarantee that problems resulting from modifications to the registry can be solved. Use the information provided at your own risk.
