I recently upgrade my system from Internet Explorer v5.5 to version 6, including Outlook Express.
I have been trying to import some e-mail messages that were originally created in version 5.5, using the import feature of the program. The messages are saved on a 3½-inch floppy disk.
The process lets me get so far then comes up with the following error message:
"No messages can be found in this folder or another application is running that has the required files open. Please select another folder or try closing applications that may have files open."
The messages are definitely saved on the floppy disc because the file size shows them totalling 1065Kb.
I am fairly competent in using a PC but this problem has got me confused. In the past before I upgraded the system, I have imported messages without any trouble. It is easy to do and shouldn't create any problems at all.
To this end I even tried shutting down my AVG anti-virus protection software to see if that cured the issue but to no avail.
If anybody has a good fix to this problem I would be eternally grateful because the messages I have are very important.

I might be misunderstanding your problem. But, you should not lose any of your email going from IE5.5 to 6.

Thanks for the replies to date. In response:
1. The messages were saved onto floppy in their original dbx format.
2. Never had any problems in the past when I used OE5.

UPDATE:
Further to my last posting, I have succeeded in being able to read my saved messages from disk.
How did I do it? Read on...
I found an amazing application that converts the dbx format that e-mail messages are saved in to plain text format.
The application is available here:

Although it is time-limited to 30 days, it has saved me a whole lot of time and expense in pursuing the import feature in Outlook Express.
Hope this posting proves useful to all those who are having difficulty in importing their messages.
Best of luck!
